Hi,
for a long time I was begging for a possibility to really "nail" perspectives and c ategories together instead of the "open jail", that more or less only cares on search results.
For a community with mostly Tecchies and interested people, it is very smart, that you can see everything in ever< perspective and that you can operate Tiki based on groups and category permissions.
BUT I am developing my sites for people, that mostly are NOT Tecchies and are either not interested or have no time, to even think about waht they want to see where.
I need to provide informations and services in a way that Non-Tecchies can find everything in an intuitive way, can share the links and I want to make shure, that people find the informations in an environment with the appropriate menus and modules, they need.
Since a while I have a feature in mind, that might be called "Areas" and that I discussed with Jonny bradley in Strasbourg.
This code could be a start for that, especially if there would be an admin area like "themes control", but for perspectives.
Then it would be possible (optional sure) to "nail" a section like "Articles", "Forums" or to nail "Categories" to perspectives in an easy way.
+1 to get this code above reviewed, extended andincluded in Tiki core.
Right at the moment I am developing a small web-portal - started 2 weeks ago and planned to be released end of this year.
There I will test the code and report.
Additionally I will desribe my idea of the "Areas" feature like agreed with Jonny and set up a Wikipage here on DEV.
Cheers
Torsten
I know that the code I supplied is nothing near the entire work of implementing this in Tikiwiki. It is only a "quickfix" that can be used under circumstances where you have enough knowledge to hand edit some of tikis sourcecode. So ofcourse it is not for every one. I put it up here in hope that it would inpsire someone to include the functionality. I will be looking into this, but it is only in my spare time which is sparse as it is right now.
I hope it is helpful
Jesper
Sounds reasonable to me in general, but would need doing in trunk first (for Tiki 8+) and then be backported as/if required.
It should also use (and be part of) perspectivelib.php, and not use "hand-made" database connections etc - see http://dev.tiki.org/Database+Access for how to access the database.
Finally there should be a preference to switch it on and off (please)
Thanks! (:mrgreen😊
